2025 Code Updates

City of Edmonds adopted its 2024 -2044 Comprehensive Plan 'Everyone's Edmonds' on Dec 17th, 2024. This update includes significant policy changes to meet future growth requirements set by the GMA, PSRC, and Snohomish County.

To align with new Washington State laws on housing diversity, affordability, and equity, the City must update its Community Development Code by July 2025. Failure to do so will result in the Department of Commerce's model ordinance superseding local regulations.

The City has begun updating two key sections of its development code: Middle Housing, to support a diverse range of mid-scale housing options, and Neighborhood Centers and Hubs, which are designated growth areas identified in the Comprehensive Plan.

Community engagement is central to the code update process. As progress is made, the City will share key project information, schedules, engagement opportunities, and summaries of Planning Board and City Council discussions to keep the community informed and involved.
