The Parks Planning and Capital Program has completed in the past few years several significant projects including the Civic Center Playfield renovation project and renovations at Mathay Ballinger Park. The focus for this work group is now on smaller projects providing repairs and replacements throughout the park system tackling deferred maintenance. Some of those recently completed projects include -
- New outdoor shower at Brackett’s Landing North Park
- Automatic locks on public park restrooms for increased security and vandalism prevention
- Apollo Spinner netting replacement at Mathay Ballinger Park
- Bottle fillers replacing drinking fountains in several parks
- Repairs to Cemetery gate after vehicle accident
- ADA parking and access
- Building code compliance improvements throughout the parks system
Another project includes Phase 1 improvement to Mathay Ballinger Park which included installation of a permanent restroom, an asphalt path to connect the parking lot, playground and Interurban trail, a drinking fountain and additional parking. This project also included new entry-way landscape and beautification efforts.
Adjacent to Mathay Ballinger Park the 1-acre Mee property, which was purchased with a Snohomish County Conservation Futures grant, has been improved with house and outbuilding demolition, rough and fine grading, addition of topsoil and mulch, hydroseeding, security bollard and fencing. The property is officially open to the public as of April and a welcomed open space addition to Mathay Ballinger park increasing it in size by nearly 50%.
