Edmonds Creative District Gateway Project at Anyway Park

Edmonds Creative District is developing a three- dimensional site-specific public artwork designed to be a welcoming feature in Anway Park, located adjacent to Washington State Dept. of Transportation Ferry holding lanes in downtown Edmonds. Funding is provided by ArtsWA capital grant with matching funds from Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation. 

Two artists and one artist team were selected from a group of 21 applicants to develop a design concept for the project. From the three concepts, one will be selected to finalize the design and fabricate the work for installation by June, 2025. The project's selection panel includes representatives from the Creative District Advisory Committee, Edmonds Arts Commission, Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation, City Council, and an arts professional resident of Edmonds.

The three design concepts will be presented to the panel on Fri., Nov. 22nd, 4:30pm, in the Edmonds Plaza Room (650 Main St., above the Edmonds Sno-Isle Library). The public is invited to attend and submit written comments.

Edmonds International District Highway 99 Banner Project

The City of Edmonds Arts Commission plans to install permanent cut metal banners on 14 red overhead light poles on the east side of Highway 99 in the Edmonds International District. The original lighting project includes artwork of a series of eight lanterns, Eight Paths of Light, by artist Pam Beyette. The fiber banners installed above the pedestrian level light fixtures (pictured) were removed in 2016.

Five Puget Sound area artists were selected from an applicant group of approximately 15 to design the banners. Installation of the banners is tentatively scheduled for late winter/spring of 2025.

The Edmonds Arts Commission is pleased to announce a unique and exciting musical commission, “Mika’s Song”, created by award-winning Edmonds composer, Ed Hartman for the Tubular Bells in Mika’s Inclusive Playground at the Edmonds Civic Center Playfield Park.

Hartman considers musical installations like the bells in the playground a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to experience music in a very welcoming place. He hopes "Mika's Song" will inspire anyone to be creative, positive, and open-minded. Click on the sheet music below to download instructions how to play the song on the tubular bells in the playground.

Described as ‘a love letter to the Salish Sea’, cascadia, by Seattle Artist Clark Weigman, located on the west side of Civic Center Playfield Park, draws attention to a collective relationship to the local environment. Visitors are greeted by a suspended lifeboat sculpture and a super-graphic seawall mural, titled lifeboat and seawall. The two elements are a duet in form, pattern and color that bring civilization and wilderness together to create a sense of place in the Puget Sound region.  Close examination of lifeboat reveals various flora, fauna and microbes woven into the hull’s patterns, while seawall surveys the terrain. The installation encourages viewers to contemplate a sense of belonging to a larger bio-region and caring for our shared environs. To see the development and progress of the fabrication of the artwork, go to: lifeboatseawall.blogspot.com
