Permitting Process and Requirements

Understanding the overall permitting process will help you plan accordingly to ensure a successful project.

The overall permitting process involves a coordinated review from different departments to ensure proposed development complies with applicable codes, regulations, and adopted plans.

If its a new development, it is recommended to begin with a pre-application meeting or a Development Review Meeting to understand the requirements and applicable regulations.

Formal applications are then submitted, which are reviewed by relevant departments for completeness and compliance.

Depending on the scope of the project, the process may include public notice, public hearings, and discretionary approvals by advisory boards or decision-making bodies.

Refer to ECDC 20.01.003 Table A for permit types.

Refer to ECDC 20.01.003 Table B for permit review timelines.

Once all conditions are satisfied and approvals are granted, permits are issued, allowing the project to proceed to construction and final inspections.
